Raising Canes
Yesterday I spent about 9 hours putting a cane together using 5 different colors in various shades. In this cold weather it took over 2 hours just to condition the clay alone. Conditioning the clay - putting it through the pasta maker a million times, rolling it with an acrylic roller, squashing it by hand - allows the binders that hold the clay together to be distributed throughout. In warmer weather it seems to go a little quicker.
With a few interruptions and breaks I finished it up at about 7:30 last evening. The last two photos were taken this morning when I started to shrink the cane. Tomorrow - if I still have power due to the impending snowstorm - I'll upload some photos of the finished product.
