Just like they said in one of my favorite Dixie Chicks songs - Goodbye Earl! It seems as though the storm is weakening and all of us on the southern coast of Massachusetts aren't going to get as clobbered as they once thought. That's okay with me! There's a big old dead oak beside my studio that I was thinking might be a casualty of the fierce weather but I can breath a little easier now.
I was so inspired by the Monthly Challenge happening over at the Art Bead Scene blog that I thought I'd jump in and participate. This is what I submitted - I hope I followed all the criteria. I created the beads for this cute little bracelet from polymer clay and industrial washers. Each bead plays off an element in the beautiful vintage fashion illustration by Barbier.

I sometimes lose sight of what my priorities are. I get caught up in challenges and activities that take up more precious time than I can spare. Every creative should have at least one good friend who sees in black and white - someone to remind you of your goal - and to set you back on the path that you need to be on to complete the tasks necessary. Like a Jiminy Cricket. Thank God I have one and I saw her today.
So - I won't be completing those dangly earrings I so wanted to design by Monday (but I will do some eventually because I've got some really great ideas). And I probably won't be participating in the color challenge on the Art Bead Scene blog page (unless I can incorporate it into some of the work I really need to accomplish first). But I may still participate in the Monthly Challenge - heck, I've got the necklace done! Why not? I just have to take the photo - that I can squeeze in ( I think). And I may or may not (depending on the challenge word and what I have in my portfolio existing) participate in the Illustration Friday challenge.
The challenge for me for the rest of this month of March is to get some work done. To follow my plan.
My bad case of Cabin Fever only worsened as I heard the news that more snow and wind would be tormenting the state over the next few days. I once read that the best remedy to cure or at least lessen the effects of this wanton disease is to leave your life for a few hours and visit someone else's. So I did just that. I ventured up to the North Shore of Massachusetts and had lunch with a good friend of mine in Newburyport at the Black Cow Restaurant. We laughed and caught up and ate really good food and sipped really good wine. Afterwards we window shopped, planning our future purchases and reluctantly avoided the fudge shops. I basked in the afterglow as I slipped right through Boston avoiding any traffic.
During my smooth ride home I was able to put some thought into this month's Art Bead Scene's Monthly Challenge based on Vincent Van Gogh's Oil Painting Almond Blossoms.
I think I'm cured...for today.
