I sometimes lose sight of what my priorities are. I get caught up in challenges and activities that take up more precious time than I can spare. Every creative should have at least one good friend who sees in black and white - someone to remind you of your goal - and to set you back on the path that you need to be on to complete the tasks necessary. Like a Jiminy Cricket. Thank God I have one and I saw her today.
So - I won't be completing those dangly earrings I so wanted to design by Monday (but I will do some eventually because I've got some really great ideas). And I probably won't be participating in the color challenge on the Art Bead Scene blog page (unless I can incorporate it into some of the work I really need to accomplish first). But I may still participate in the Monthly Challenge - heck, I've got the necklace done! Why not? I just have to take the photo - that I can squeeze in ( I think). And I may or may not (depending on the challenge word and what I have in my portfolio existing) participate in the Illustration Friday challenge.
The challenge for me for the rest of this month of March is to get some work done. To follow my plan.
Welcome Illustration Friday viewers...and all others. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Illustration Friday is a weekly creative outlet/participatory art exhibit for illustrators and artists of all skill levels. It was designed to challenge participants creatively. This week the illustration topic is propogate. Propogate - to multiply. This is a self portrait of myself and my daughters. The youngest is far from being a baby now. Other than the embellishments, this entire piece was done in polymer clay - a very versatile medium.

Welcome to all and a special welcome to Illustration Friday visitors. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, llustration Friday is a weekly creative outlet/participatory art exhibit for illustrators and artists of all skill levels. It was designed to challenge participants creatively. This week the illustration topic is focused. This illustration is done on scratchboard, a favorite medium of mine - as is polymer clay. It's of my mother in law who undoubtedly is one of the most focused and determined people you'll ever meet. 85 this May and she's as strong willed as ever.
I'd love to figure out a way I could combine the techniques used on scratchboard with polymer clay. Perhaps I could lay a very thin sheet of color over a contrasting base and scratch the top layer off just as you would the ink off the clay base of the scratchboard.
As I was perusing through some polymer clay sites today I found an artist named Eugena Topina - she has some beautiful pieces on her site that almost have a scratchboard quality. I'll have to test out my theory one of these days.
